How to participate ?
You can practice collective leadership with the CLIC initiative in different ways, as:
a) Leadership Cohort participant
b) Organizational partner and/or investor
c) Mentor

Leadership cohort participant
Criteria to participate in the CLIC program as a leadership cohort participant:
Personal background :
- New to Canada within the last 5 years
Academic background :
- Graduated with a Master’s or Ph.D. as an international student in Canada in the past 3 years – in any discipline or institution.
Experience :
- You have demonstrated your leadership skills and potential within the Ottawa-Gatineau community over the past 3 years.
Commitment:
- You have a proposal to contribute to social change in Ottawa-Gatineau, in support of equitable newcomer integration.
- You are able to participate in the 3-day immersion (3 half-days) last week of October 2026 to share your proposal with community members.

Organizational partner and/or investor
Criteria to participate in the CLIC program as an Organizational partner and/or investor:
Mission and Objectives
- You have a social purpose – the structure is not important; it can be public, private, not-for-profit, social enterprise, or a volunteer community group.
- Your mission and objectives emphasize collective action to address complex challenges
Projects and programs
- Your projects and programs are developed and implemented in collaboration with your clients, users, beneficiaries.
Networks and partnerships
- You work through networks and partnerships to fulfill your mission, and have the experience of following through on shared commitments.
Risk-taking and innovation
- You understand that innovation requires risk-taking
- You have invested in initiatives that seemed risky at first; overcame obstacles, and demonstrated positive impact to your stakeholders
Resources
- You are willing to share combinations of knowledge, time, space, and money to support the equitable and sustainable integration of newcomers in Canada.

Mentor
(top 10) criteria to participate in the CLIC program as a mentor to a leadership cohort participant:
You:
- See newcomers as contributors and change agents, not just beneficiaries of services
- Understand the barriers that newcomers may encounter in Canada
- Demonstrate openness to learning from newcomers rather than « teaching » them.
- Have leadership experience in Canadian organizations and communities
- Value relationship building and collaboration
- Have good listening skills, and are able to provide constructive feedback
- Willing to discuss power, privilege, and identity, while recognizing the limits of your own perspective
- Able to open doors and connect participants with resources in the community
- Welcome diverse perspectives that challenge existing assumptions.
- Have time to meet 2-4 hours a month for a 6-month period between November 2026 and April 2027
